New photo Driver’s fury after RAC ‘took 21 HOURS to get him home’ when Porsche broke down

A MAROONED motorist took nearly 21 hours to get home thanks to bungled vehicle recovery.

Mohammed Aliaus, from Nottingham, was driving his custom Porsche 986 home from Essex when he was hit with a problem with a tyre.

The businessman said he broke down at 5.30pm on November 13 but did not get home until 2.30pm the following day after a number of mix-ups by the RAC.

The company has since said sorry for the “poor way” his breakdown was carried out.

Mr Aliaus’ ordeal began after he pulled into a petrol station after becoming aware of an issue with a tyre and called the RAC.

Then after a seven hour wait, he said the wrong type of truck was dispatched to recover his specialist car.

An hour later, another recovery vehicle was deployed.

But instead of going to its intended destination, the driver had to stop in Toddington, Bedfordshire, to take his required break.

Mr Aliaus said he then waited another four hours for the next truck to arrive — eventually arriving home at 2.30pm the next day.

Because Mr Aliaus ended up sitting in the car for extended periods of time, he said he had aggravated a back problem.

Mr Aliaus told the BBC he has full RAC membership which includes hotel stay if needed plus vehicle hire — but he said he was never offered these options.

He said: “The annoying part was they kept promising, saying we’ll be back in touch, giving me times and then changing them.

“I was absolutely shattered. I was in the middle of nowhere at an empty petrol station with nowhere to go.”

In a statement the RAC said “We would like to apologise to Mr Aliaus for the poor way his breakdown was handled.

“To apologise for this, we are making arrangements for a gesture of goodwill payment of £100.”
