ENGLAND opened their Uefa Nations League campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Spain.

But unlike all of the other matches so far, the Three Lions were using their own ball, instead of the tournament one.

Why are England NOT using the Uefa Nations League ball?

While every other match in the competition so far has used the tournament ball, England were playing with a Nike one.

The Three Lions received special dispensation from Uefa to use the ball in line with their sponsorship deal with the sports manufacturing giants.

It is expected they will only be able to use this for their home fixtures during the competition, including in their match against Croatia in November.

What sponsorship deal does England have with Nike?

England secured a 12-year and £400m deal with Nike that came into force last year.

The agreement will run until 2030, having already been wearing jerseys with the Nike swoosh for five years now.

The deal came under criticism prior to the 2018 World Cup when England were only allowed to use the Adidas-designed tournament ball for their final warm-up match under the agreement.
