BELLINGCAT uncovered the real identity of Novichok hitman Anatoliy Chepiga – but who are they?

What is Bellingcat?
Bellingcat is an citizen investigative journalism site run by Eliot Higgins.
He started his work with the pen name Brown Moses, and rose to prominence with a series of investigations on the war in Syria.
The success was leveraged to create a Kickstarter campaign to fund Bellingcat, which he describes as a group of “citizen investigative journalists using open source information to investigate, collaborate, and report on worldwide issues that are being underreported and ignored.”
The website uncovered the real identity of Novichok assassin Ruslan Boshirov.
What else have they uncovered?
Bellingcat’s MH17 investigation team published a 35-page document accusing Russia of shooting down the Malaysian jet.
The team found evidence that the Buk missile was fired by the Russian Army’s 53rd anti-Aircraft Rocket brigade.
They also uncovered extensive evidence of chemical weapons being used on civilians during the Syrian Civil War.
They also discovered that ISIS were using home-made drones to drop grenades on opposition targets.

Who exposed suspected Salisbury Novichok assassin Anatoliy Chepiga?
Ruslan Boshirov is an alleged Russian GRU agent suspected of poisoning Sergei Skripal.
His real name is reportedly Colonel Anatoliy Chepiga, a 39-year-old soldier who served in both Chechnya and Ukraine.
A former Russian officer told Bellingcat that Chepiga’s high rank suggested the Novichok hit was ordered “at the highest level”.
Using leaked Russian military databases, the Bellingcat team found a passport application which confirmed his identity.
They were filmed “moments before” the botched hit on March 4 and left the country hours later in a flight out of Heathrow, cops said.
