When Tennessee truck driver, Tony Alsup, saw on the news that numerous animal shelters surrounding Hurricane Florence had become overcrowded with lost or rescued animals, he knew he had to help. So, he bought a school bus, and drove to South Carolina to evacuate as many animals as he could from shelters in the Hurricane’s path.

Altogether, Alsup has saved 64 “leftover” pets from shelters: 53 dogs and 11 cats. “It’s so easy for people to adopt the small pets and the cuties and the cuddly,” he said, “We take on the ones that deserve a chance even though they are big and a little ugly. But I love big dogs, and we find places for them.”
Inside the bus, the seats have been ripped out to make room for its furry passengers. On the bus’s side are the words “EMERGENCY ANIMAL RESCUE SHELTER.”
But, it could have said “Noah’s Ark.” People everywhere have been referring to Alsup’s school bus as “Noah’s Ark” because it’s essentially been saving animals from a flood.

Last night, Alsup made a quick pit stop at a Waffle House outside of North Carolina. He parked the school bus that he’s been driving for over a week now, and enjoyed some well deserved waffles and grits.
Alsup reminds us that even in hard times, there are people out there making the world a better place. And that everyone loves Waffles.
