THERESA May has insisted Donald Trump listens to her despite struggling to come up with a single time she had him to change his mind.
The Prime Minister had an awkward exchange about her relationship with the American on eve of talks with him at the UN this week

The pair are among more than 130 world leaders attending the General Assembly meetings in New York, with Russia’s use of chemical weapons in Salisbury on the agenda.
But speaking to US TV channel CBS before she set off Mrs May was asked whether Mr Trump listens to her when they speak.
She replied: “Yes, we have very good discussions. And these are, I mean, the point of the special relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States in a sense is that we can have those frank and open discussions.
“And when we disagree, we will – we can say to each other we disagree and why we disagree.
“But at the same time, we cooperate on so much else, which is of crucial importance to us. Clearly, obviously security and defense being key to that.”

But then asked if there is an “instance in which you think he listened to you and his behaviour changed” she was left tongue-tied.
Eventually she awkwardly claimed she had hammered through the “importance of Nato” to the President.
It also took the PM two questions for her to say she even trusts Mr Trump.
Mrs May initially would only say: “Of course I listen to what the American president tells me.”
But pressed to give a yes or answer on whether she trusts the President, the PM replied: “Well, yes. I mean, we work together. We have a special relationship.”

Mrs May also disclosed she has a “difference of opinion” with Mr Trump on the Iran nuclear deal, which is set to be one of the key talking points at the UNGA.
Elsewhere in the interview the PM also claimed female leaders were treated unfairly compared to their male counterparts.
Asked if she thought women leaders were judged by a different standard, she said: “The one thing where we do face a slight difference is, of course, that rather more attention is paid to our clothes than perhaps to the male leaders.”
