ROBBIE Williams says he was “terrified” of X-Factor boss Simon Cowell for 25 years.
The Rock DJ singer says he was intimidated by the mogul because he turned down signing Take That.
Robbie, 44, well and truly faced his fear this year, to become an X Factor judge alongside Simon and his wife Ayda.
The Angels star revealed to the Daily Star he first met the surly bigwig back in 1993 at the BMG offices.
He said: “I was terrified by him and really interested in him as a person.
“He was an incredibly interesting guy who I was scared of!
“He had a chance to sign Take That and he passed on it.”
Robbie now calls Simon a “visionary” and a “genius”, as well as a close pal – while Simon says he is the best ten million he ever spent.
He added: “Everybody talks about him being the dark lord of the music industry, but the more I know him, the more I love him.”
Now Robbie has put his fear behind him and has confessed that Simon has become one of his closest pals.
He gushed: “He’s a visionary, he’s a genius and he’s unique.
“Everybody talks about him being the dark lord of the music industry, but the more I know him, the more I love him.”

Earlier we revealed how Robbie and X Factor co-star Louis Tomlinson proved their loyalty to the show by tattooing each other with matching ‘X’ symbols, with mixed results.
Last weekend, viewers found out which category each of the judges got, with the foursome set to whittle each group down to just six contestants during this weekend’s episodes of the show.
Louis has been given the Boys, Simon the Girls, Robbie the Groups, and Ayda the Overs.
