New photo Kmart launches Afterpay as Australian shoppers go wild

Australian retail chain Kmart has announced they will offer their customers Afterpay, sending budget hunters into a frenzy.

'We will be making a formal announcement about our new partnership early next week, but can confirm that customers will soon have the option to use Afterpay for online purchases,' a Kmart spokesperson has confirmed to Daily Mail Australia.

'At Kmart, we're on a mission to make everyday living brighter for our customers, by making products more accessible for everyone.'

After months of campaigning from loyal customers, shoppers took to social media on Wednesday to reveal the new paying option will launch on September 18.

How does Afterpay work?

Afterpay allows customers to enjoy their shopping now - and pay later.

Consumers can buy clothes, shoes and accessories online after selecting Afterpay in checkout as payment method. Then have the online purchases delivered to your door without paying a cent.

Over four installments, customers pay off their purchase every fortnight - all with no interest or fees.

The only fees Afterpay charges are late fees for missed payments.

'THIS IS NOT A DRILL. KMART IS GETTING AFTERPAY!! Launching online mid September. Minimum order $70 Maximum order $1,000', one shopper wrote.

Shoppers are claiming Kmart staff members in stores have directly confirmed the speculations are true.

'A few people have confirmed this in store and via the phone with Kmart staff themselves who have confirmed it's launching 18th of September,' one said.

'I've called head office and this has been confirmed by them,' another wrote.

Another shopper posted: 'They've confirmed to it everyone calling. It's 100 per cent true, Afterpay is coming to Kmart online.'

And one commented: 'My sister-in-law works for Kmart, they were briefed on it yesterday during a team meeting, it's definitely happening. Staff in-store have also confirmed. I called head office and they confirmed.'

Afterpay allows consumers to buy clothes, shoes and accessories online and then have them delivered to the door without paying a cent.

Almost like a reverse lay-by, shoppers pay the balance over four equal installments, due every two weeks - all with no interest or fees.
