FURIOUS Barcelona fans have called for Gerard Pique to retire after Wednesday’s devastating defeat to Leganes.

The 31-year-old, who joined the club in 2008, made another howler as he continued his shocking start to the La Liga season.

Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring after 12 minutes to put Barcelona in control at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.

Nabil El Zhar then equalised before Pique’s defensive mistake led to Oscar Rodriguez Arnaiz slotting home the winner.

And fans bombarded the long-serving defender with abuse as the Spanish giants suffered their first defeat of the season.

One said: “Pique has put us behind for the second game in a row. I can’t stand to watch this anymore.”

Another added: “Pique should retire. He’s been terrible for the past two games… don’t even know what’s coming next. Just retire. @FCBarcelona.”

Some fans even put his poor performances down to the fact that he had recently shaved off his beard.

One hopeful supporter said: “Pique grow your beard back ASAP #shocker.”

Pique, who has won the Champions League four times, has scored 24 goals in 282 appearances for the Catalan club.

But fans want to see him out of the starting XI for Saturday’s must-win match against Athletic Bilbao.

Ernesto Valverde’s side are now level on points with Real Madrid at the top of the table after six games played.
