SIR Elton John has signed up to star in the next John Lewis Christmas advert.
The 71-year-old rock star has nabbed a $5million deal from the British retailer, who will cast a child actor to play the Rocket Man singer.
Elton spent four days filming the festive advert at Pinewood studios, reports The Mail On Sunday.
The star’s 1970 chart hit Your Song is the soundtrack for the festive commercial and bosses, who have seen the final cut, think it is a guaranteed tear-jerker.
A source told the publication: “John Lewis wanted to win the battle of the Christmas adverts this year and it has cost them a significant sum to do it.
“But they think having Elton on board will guarantee its popularity and blow Marks & Spencer out of the water.
“It’s a tear-jerker but also very sweet, and follows Elton from a child, through his teenage years, into how he is today.
“It is all very, very charming and the exciting crescendo at the end will be Elton playing his famous piano.”
The megastar’s fee is said to make up half of a total production cost of £10 million.
Sir Elton announced earlier this year that he is stepping away from live performing to spend more time with his family.
However, fans in Wales and southern England, as well as Ireland, will be able to catch his final shows next June when he sets out on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
He said of the tour: “I am very happy to announce the launch of my UK Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour with concerts in Hove and Cardiff.
“The audiences in the South Coast and Wales have always been some of the most welcoming and exciting I have played in front of over the past forty-two years .
“The band and I are so excited to say goodbye in the most fantastic way. It’s going to be amazing!”
