CORONATION Street bosses have hired three comically-minded writers to inject fun and lightness back into the soap.
The long running ITV series has courted controversy over the past two years under the tutelage of former boss Kate Oates.

The show has put off fans with stories about sex rings, male rape, and graphic murder.
Even showbiz fan Paul O’Grady criticised it saying the soap is so violent “it’s like Syria”.
New boss Ian MacLeod has brought in a team of writers including Ian Kershaw, who worked on Shameless and Cold Feet, according to the Daily Star.
He knows Corrie well, having been married to actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, who used to play Hayley Cropper.

Other new writers include Samantha Holdsworth, drafted in from Emmerdale, and Alasdair Morrison who worked on Hollyoaks.
Among other critics to the dour storyline was writer Martina Cole, who called for the end of violence and drama.
Iain MacLeod was hired in May to act as the new boss of the show – and he has hinted he wants the soap to embrace more playful subject matter.
A leaked job description reported in the paper, read: “You must have an excellent understanding of what makes a brilliant story and how production works on a serial drama.
“And you must have previous extensive experience as a storyliner or a track record of writing on a long-running show,” the brief adds.
Corrie has been criticised by viewers in recent months over the dark storylines introduced by ex-boss Kate.
Her departure was met with joyous applause from some Corrie fans who hoped her exit would herald a more family-friendly show.

Former show supremo Kate’s decision to make the soap grittier led to outrage from fans including Paul, 62, who called on writers to return it to working class roots.
Crime writer Martina Cole, 58, a die-hard fan, demanded a return to the days of Ken and Deirdre and Mike Baldwin.
And former Street actress Sherrie Hewson, 67, said she feared Corrie’s that glory days were over.

When it was announced MacLeod was replacing Kate as producer, lifelong fan Karen Selfridge penned him a letter on a Corrie Facebook page begging him for a change of direction.
Return She wrote: “We long for balance, laughter and tears.
“Please show us your wit and pay homage to our beloved past characters.
“More substance of character and less sensationalism for ratings.
“We’re counting on you to make Corrie the number one show it was in the past with drama not bloodshed.
“Please, fewer scenes of drug addicts shooting up in church, and more old friends sneaking a drink in the ladies’ room.”
A source said: “Iain is aware of the responsibility he has to the Street’s loyal following.”
