THE number of women dying from breast cancer could start to increase in less than four years, experts say.

Charity Breast Cancer Now warned that the death toll could rise because the number of diagnoses are going up while survival rates — though improving — are slowing down.

Around 11,000 die from the disease each year. But in 2021, it will claim the lives of an estimated 11,095 women aged 15 to 90. Researchers suggest that figure could climb to 11,876 by 2035.

Breast Cancer Now wants the Government to put more money into breast cancer services. It specified sorting the postcode lottery in care, working to improve screening uptake and funding treatments to prevent avoidable deaths.

Boss Baroness Delyth Morgan said: “This projected rise in breast cancer deaths is deeply worrying, but it is not too late to stop it.”
