Footwear giant Allbirds have joined forces with Air New Zealand have joined forces to create an in-flight accessory which will leave you refreshed and rejuvenated before reaching your destination.

The fruit of the prolific collaboration is 'The Bird Mask', a luxurious travel eye mask to help you sleep better and wake up ready for action.

Dubbed 'the world's most comfortable eye mask', the sleepwear is 'sensationally soft' and made from sustainable, ZQ-certified merino wool and castor bean oil-based foam.

The Bird Mask will be exclusively available in Air New Zealand's Business Premier cabin on selected North American routes throughout October.

Known for its revolutionary sneakers, the partnership marks the first foray for Allbirds into the world of luxury sleepwear.

The streamlined design of the mask allows for natural eye movement during wear, while the quirky birdlike beak completely blocks out light for restful darkness.

Allbirds founder Tim Brown said they 'jumped at the chance' to work with the national carrier as both brands have a shared commitment to thoughtful design and customer experience.

Air New Zealand Chief Marketing Officer Mike Tod agreed there is a 'natural alignment' between the airline and Allbirds.

'Like Air New Zealand, Allbirds punches above its weight and has made a name for itself as a disruptor in the footwear industry.

'Both brands are famous for comfort – by putting our heads together, we've created a product our customers will truly value and re-use again and again.

'We're proud to offer our customers the best sleep in the sky.'

New Zealand-based Allbirds is no stranger to cult success, with their sneakers being endorsed by the likes of Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, Barack Obama and Emma Watson who has likened them to 'slippers I wear to the gym'.

Since conjuring the idea for the footwear while playing for the Newcastle Jets, Allbirds founder Tim Brown has gone on to sell more than one million pairs and has seen his offering described as 'the most comfortable shoes in the world'.

The secret to the comfort of the shoe lies in the eucalyptus extract used during manufacturing.

'We've used 3D knitting to take eucalyptus fibre and its cooling properties which are perfect for sweaty feet and create a running shoe,' Mr Brown told Green + Simple.

'Eucalyptus has both incredible hand-feel and softness but also a naturally cooling property that made it the perfect solution.'
