The devastated families of two men who were stabbed in a Queensland coastal town comforted each other as police continued to piece together their puzzling deaths.
Tom Davy, 27 and Corey Christensen, 37, died from stab wounds and massive blood loss on the street outside a house in Alva Beach, near Townsville, on Sunday night.
The two men chased Mr Davy's girlfriend Candice Locke, 29, to the Topton Street house, where she had begged the occupant Dean Webber to let her inside for safety.
Ms Locke, the daughter of former NRL player Martin Locke, was suffering from a dislocated shoulder which police said happened earlier in the evening before she ran for help.
While Ms Locke recovered in hospital after shoulder surgery, the family and friends of Mr Davy and Mr Christensen visited the scene on Wednesday.
Groups arrived separately and stopped to look at floral tributes to the two men, less than a metre from a bloodstained gutter.

Ms Locke (left) and Mr Davy (right) are both from New South Wales, although it's unclear why the pair were in Alva Beach. It's understood the pair were in a relationship
Mr Christensen (pictured) and Mr Davy both died after being found bleeding on the street outside. Police have not revealed how the pair knew each other or why they found themselves at the home of Mr Webber, who they did not know
One woman broke down in tears and sobbed loudly as she was supported by another man who then helped her to a car as they held on to each other.
A locksmith was seen repairing a sliding door at the front of the house where the pair died, which remains a crime scene and under police guard.
Mr Webber was arrested but released without charge on Monday with police now believing he heroically defended a complete stranger in self-defence.
Mr Webber sported a significant limp and clutched the back of his left thigh as he arrived back at the house with officers on Tuesday afternoon.
He left the house soon after and has not returned since.
Detectives were on Wednesday still trying to piece together what happened before Ms Locke desperately banged on Mr Webber's door.

Dean Webber (pictured), 19, was released without charge on Tuesday afternoon and led police back to his home in the tiny seaside town of Alva Beach
Detectives were seen speaking to Mr Christensen's family and friends on Wednesday as they continued investigations.
His family were earlier seen sitting at a covered patio table in his home for hours consoling each other.
Detective Inspector Chris Lawson said on Tuesday night officers were still joining the dots on the night's events.
'We do have a picture of what has occurred but the way it has occurred is still under investigation and we're still utilising witnesses to make sure it's accurate,' he said.
Ms Locke hails from Townsville, 70km north of Alva Beach, but had been living in NSW and working at an animal shelter.
It was not clear why she and Mr Davy were in Alva Beach or their relationship to Mr Christensen, a local father-of-three.
