BRITS are set to bask in balmy temperatures of 22C next week as an “Indian summer is expected to begin tomorrow”.

Patches of thick cloud cover and fog will clear tonight, leading to several days of dry weather and plenty of sunshine.

But those in the north will face more miserable weather, with gusty windy conditions and the odd patch of rain.

Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said: “A north/south split developing through the middle of the week.

“In the south, temperatures will creep up day by day, until reaching a peak of around 22C on Thursday, before conditions become milder approaching the weekend.

“But in the north, conditions will remain unsettled throughout the week.”

Unsure on when the third storm of the season will strike the nation, Helen added: “It will be a wet and windy day across all southern parts, so southern counties of England and possibly South Wales as well.

“But nothing like what we’ve seen with the storms earlier in the week, so just a fairly typical autumnal cloudy, wet day.”

Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England can expect a “fairly chilly day with bright, sunny spells and showers”, she added.

Temperatures will remain in the low teens, but conditions are expected to settle before rising to 22C by Thursday next week.

The hotter weather will continue into next weekend, with The Met Office projecting 20C on Friday.

The calmer conditions will be welcomed by Brits who have endured Storm Ali and Bronagh, which brought 78mph gusts.
