A BID for Britain and Ireland to host the 2030 Cup was given a major boost last night after Theresa May last night pledged to support it.

The PM promised to put Government money behind the fledgling attempt to bring world football home again for the first time in 66 years.

But the move lines her up in a head to head clash with Argentina, who are the current favourites with a joint bid alongside Uruguay and Paraguay.

The FA has launched a study to probe a potential bid next year, along with football officials in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Ahead of the start of the Tory party conference in Birmingham, the PM seized on the “excitement” of the last World Cup.

Mrs May said: “Following the excitement of this Summer’s World Cup, the English FA are working together with the FAs of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland to explore whether there could be a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup.

“The decision on whether to bid is, of course, for the football associations to make.

But if they decide to go forward, they can count on this government’s full support.”

London and Glasgow will already host eleven games in the UEFA European Championship competition in 2020, with Wembley stadium hosting both the semi-final and final events.

England last hosted the World Cup in 1966, the only time the team has lifted the prestigious trophy.

The next competition will be held in 2022 in Qatar and America and Mexico will jointly host the 2026 event.

The Government believes it is time that the UK hosted the event again, as many other nations have won the bid to do so on more than one occasion since England last had the chance.

The UK hosted the London 2012 Olympic Games, the 2013 Rugby World Cup and the 2014 Commonwealth Games, as well as a number of other cycling events over recent years.

It comes as the education secretary and sports minister launched a joint bid to increase sport in schools with the help of football and rugby governing bodies.

Ministers have already boosted the amount of money spent on primary school sport to £320 million last year after figures showed a decline in the number of children playing competitive sports.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
