What’s Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Instagram?
On April 2, 2019 it was revealed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had launched their very own Instagram account under the handle ‘sussexroyal’.
The couple announced their arrival on the ‘gram with a selection of photographs, including cute snaps taken on their royal walkabouts and tours.
“Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues. We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal– Harry & Meghan,” the caption read.
Megan previously had her own Instagram account, but shut it down in 2017 when she took up her royal duties.
Why have Meghan and Harry launched an Instagram account?
The couple will use their account to document their important royal engagements and also the big causes close to their hearts.
Experts have been weighing in on the couple’s first foray into social media, with leading PRs claiming Meghan is “taking control” of her image in what will be a “highly stylised” account filled with “candid images”.
According to Nick Ede, Popular Culture Expert and CEO of East of Eden, it’s a big move for the couple and a chance to provide content for fans in a “safe and communicated way”.
Nick also claims it’s likely the couple will use the account to post the first official image of Baby Sussex, once the tot arrives.
Have Meghan and Harry beaten the world record for Instagram followers?
The royal couple’s account attracted one million followers within six hours of its creation.
This means they smashed the current record for the quickest following.
Guinness World Records states that the current fastest time to gain one million Instagram followers is 11 hours and 36 minutes and it was achieved by K-pop star Kang Daniel on January 2, 2019.
As of April 2, 2019 the account had 2.1m followers.

Which other royals are on social media?
The royals aren’t known to have personal Instagram accounts but Princess Eugenie seems to be an exception to the rule, and is the only one to take part in social media.
Her older sister Princess Beatrice of York doesn’t have Instagram but Eugenie created her account back in March 2017.
The princess previously said: “I hope to use this platform to share the causes, passions and people close to my heart.”
As of April 2019 she had only posted 74 pictures, but she boasts over 756k followers.
