Steven Beeson, 40, (mugshot pictured) has been jailed for 20 months after stealing a caravan and driving while disqualified
A thief who managed to evade police for 40 miles while towing a stolen caravan during a high-speed chase has been jailed for nearly two years.
Steven Beeson, 40, reached speeds of up to 70mph as he dodged in and out of cars and narrowly avoided smashing into a lorry in Staffordshire on June 22 last year.
Police approached him near a roundabout on the A34 after clocking his Mitsubishi pick-up truck and Elddis caravan had fake number plates.
But he failed to stop and went zooming off towards Trentham before heading onto the M6.
Shocking dashcam footage shows him missing a lorry by just inches as he sped down a slip road at Junction 15.
He carried on for 40 miles through road works before finally being caught at Hilton Park Services near Junction 11.
The 40-year-old was jailed for 20 months for theft and driving while disqualified at Stafford Crown Court last week. He was also banned from driving for three years.

PC Andrew Sigley, from the Central Motorway Police Group, said: 'Beeson demonstrated some very dangerous driving and was lucky he did not cause a collision with another motorist.
'The excellent work by our pursuit team meant we were able to bring this reckless behaviour to a safe end.'
After dashcam footage of the chase was posted on social media, Beeson was slated by unimpressed drivers.
One wrote: 'Jeremy Clarkson shows how caravan driving should be done!'
Another posted: 'Always thought caravans only capable of travelling at 20mph on the M5 on Bank Holidays! Now we know the truth!'

Beeson, of Walsall, West Midlands, failed to stop for officers at around 4.40am on June 22 last year and zoomed off at high speed, reaching 70mph despite towing the 20ft-long caravan (pictured in dashcam footage)
