"Many Photos" - Two quizzed over death of boy, 7, electrocuted outside pub while ‘trying to retrieve football’

TWO people have been quizzed over the death of a seven-year-old boy who was electrocuted outside an East London pub while trying to retrieve a football.

Little Harvey Tyrrell had been playing at the King Harold Pub in Romford when he tragically suffered fatal injuries in September last year.

At the time, witnesses said he had climbed over a wall to retrieve a ball but stumbled and hit his head.

Police today confirmed two men, aged 70 and 72, were interviewed under caution over the tragedy, with a file sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Emergency services had rushed to the King Harold pub in Station Road in Romford just after 5.20pm on September 11 last year.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Officers and LAS attended and a seven-year-old boy, Harvey Tyrrell from Harold Wood, was found unresponsive.

“He was taken to an east London hospital where he was pronounced dead at 18.33hrs.”

A post mortem was conducted that week, with authorities today confirming his cause of death was electrocution.

The spokesperson said the two men had been interviewed on September 12 last year and January 11 this year.

They added: “A file on the incident has now been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.”

Tributes had been paid to the schoolboy in the days after the tragedy, with local saying: “Harvey was a beautiful, happy & healthy seven-year-old boy who loved his football just like any other boy his age.

“Unfortunately, on the 11th September Harvey had a tragic accident & sadly passed away, leaving his mum, dad and family completely heartbroken. The paramedics tried to help resuscitate Harvey for over an hour but he had already been taken by the angels.”

More than £25,000 had been raised for the youngster’s funeral.

A provisional inquest date was set for April this year.

Enquiries continue.
