"Many Photos" - Student uses screenshot from Line of Duty to unravel episode

An eagle-eyed Line of Duty viewer believes she's worked who the corrupt police officer named by a witness at the end of the la.

Fans were left on tenterhooks by the end of Sunday night's tense episode, which saw DS Arnott and DI Fleming question DS Jane Cafferty.

After they presented her with a selection of high-ranking cops and asked her to pick out the corrupt officer who had recruited her, viewers took it upon themselves to turn detective and solve the mystery.

DS Arnott and DI Fleming placed a series of headshots on the table in front of Cafferty - including CC Hilton, DI Matthew 'Dot' Cotton, DS Jeremy Cole and Manish Prasad (both series two) and CS Patrick Fairbank (series three) – alongside current AC-12 officers.

She supposedly identified ‘H’, as Superintendent Ted Hastings looked on nervously from his office.

But viewers unable to wait for the third instalment of the drama decided to try and untangle the web of deceit and lies, and identify the officer themselves.

After a student posted a screengrab of the show on Twitter alongside the potential suspects, other waded in with their own theories.

Andrew Snape tweeted: 'I was pausing it on iPlayer trying to look down from the top of the screen for a better angle.'

Sara added: 'Me and my husband spent half an hour rewinding, slow mo, rewind again - eliminating them one by one. Definitely pointed to Cottan.'

Melanie said: 'This is excellent work. Fancy running the country?'

Line Of Duty is written by Jed Mercurio, who is also the brains behind BBC's stand-out hit show Bodyguard.

It focuses on the travails of AC-12, an anti-corruption squad based at Polk Avenue police station in a nameless northern town, although it is actually filmed in Belfast.

Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), Detective Inspector Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) are the leading stars of the drama.

The show sees AC-12 find themselves accidentally embroiled in Operation Peartree, a long-term undercover investigation into links between organised crime and high-ranking police officers.

The team were originally investigating the prospect of insider collusion in this attack on the police convoy carrying the seized drugs.

Now they are onto Corbett, who seems to have gone rogue and turned into a vicious gangland boss with blood on his hands.

The fifth series of Line Of Duty - which stars Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar and Stephen Graham - continues on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
