"Many Photos" - Nanny ‘smothers 11-month-old baby by lying on top of him during nap time at Taiwan nursery’

THIS is the distressing moment a nanny appears to suffocate a baby by lying on top of him at a daycare centre on Monday.

Harrowing CCTV footage shows the nursery worker, named only as Liao, pressing her body on top of the boy at the We Care Baby unit in Taipei, Taiwan.

The worker, named only as Liao, told detectives that she thought the boy had fallen asleep when he stopped moving[/caption]

Liao, 40, seems to squeeze the 11-month-old into her chest as he struggles to get free during nap time.

His lifeless body is then lifted from the floor by panicked staff who try to resuscitated the boy, identified by his surname Lee.

Paramedics can then be seen working to save his life – but the tragic toddler was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Liao was reportedly detained on manslaughter charges.

But she insists she thought the baby was sleeping when he stopped moving.

Liao was later released on bail of 30,000 Taiwanese Dollars (£745), according to Taiwan’s Shilin District Prosecutors Office.

The toddler was reported unconscious at 2:10pm and declared dead at 3.30pm at the Tri-Service General Hospital.

An autopsy was scheduled for today – while further investigations continue.
