"Many Photos" - Michael Jackson statue removed from McDonald’s after superstar’s paedo abuses were exposed in Leaving Neverland

A GIANT Michael Jackson statue has been removed from the front of a McDonald’s restaurant following the release of the damning ‘Leaving Neverland’ documentary.

The statue had become a tourist attraction since it was acquired by the McDonald’s restaurant in Best, a town in the province of Noord Brabant in the Netherlands, in 1996.

The franchisee Peter van Gelder had bought it for £12,852 at a charity event, with the proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, an American non-profit organisation that supports the health and well-being of children.

Despite early objections, van Gelder made the decision to remove the statue after meeting with national McDonald’s bosses, according to reports.

The statue’s removal today follows the release of the documentary in which two alleged victims of the King of Pop claim he repeatedly sexually abused them.

A McDonald’s spokeswoman told local media: “We find it important that all guests feel pleasant when they visit one of our restaurants”.

EFFECT OF LEAVING NEVERLAND

She added the giant Michael Jackson statue could cause unpleasant feelings among guests, which is why it has been removed.

Van Gelder has gifted the 33-feet high statue to the Dutch Michael Jackson fan club which will now decide on a new location for their hero, according to local media.

McDonald’s restaurant owner van Gelder said that Jackson will still be remembered as one of music’s all-time greats.

He said: “His music remains timeless and second to none. That is irrespective of all that has come out now.”

The restaurant also displayed a certificate signed by Jackson himself thanking van Gelder for purchasing the “mega Michael Jackson statue”.

It is unclear if the signed certificate has been removed too.

The latest move comes just weeks after a similar statue was removed from the National Football Museum in Manchester in the wake of Leaving Neverland‘s release.
