PAUL POGBA has been told he owes Manchester United — after fresh links to Real Madrid.
The magazine France Football claimed a move to the Bernabeu could again be on the cards for the £89million record signing.
Yet United No2 Mike Phelan says the French World Cup winner “needs to achieve more” at Old Trafford.
Phelan — who also worked with Pogba when he was Alex Ferguson’s assistant — says the 26-year-old still has some way to go to fulfil his potential.
He said: “Paul is not the finished deal even though everyone looks at him and sees a World Cup winner already.
“But there is still a lot more to come — and that is the exciting bit about Manchester United.
“There are players here who haven’t achieved for the club what they need to achieve.
“And we want to make sure that they relish that experience, embrace the opportunity to win things at United.”
“HE’S MATURING”
Pogba was criticised for his performances under Jose Mourinho and axed for the former manager’s final games in charge.
However he was recalled by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was influential in helping the Norwegian land the job on a full-time basis.
Phelan added: “Paul had a spell where all the eyes were on him and delivery of his best wasn’t there all the time, the consistency.
“Now we are trying to apply ourselves to Paul’s game. Ole has done a terrific job at helping Paul through certain spells and he has embraced that. He is maturing all the time.”
The suggestion in France Football though is United have been alarmed by the midfielder’s recent dip in form.
And that means his future is again up in the air with the Spanish giants keen on a big-money move.

Phelan has yet to commit himself to a long-term deal as Solskjaer’s assistant but he is expected to do so in the coming weeks.
He said: “I want these players to enjoy their own great moments for themselves but I also want to do it again — that is the drive.
“It is different this time around, of course it is. It was six years ago, but it is not impossible.”
