LIVERPOOL star Virgil van Dijk has revealed he voted for Manchester City ace Raheem Sterling as Player of the Year.
The duo, altogether with another Citizen Bernardo Silva, are considered to be the favourites for the coveted prize.
Van Dijk is having an outstanding season at Anfield, becoming the key cog in Jurgen Klopp’s well-oiled machine.
The Dutchman has transformed Liverpool into the most defensively solid Premier League side as the Reds have conceded only 20 goals, the fewest in the current campaign.
His spectacular individual performances have already earned him a Premier League Player of the Month award – becoming the first defender to do so since 2013.
And many fans and commentators have tipped Van Dijk for the Prem’s best player crown, with Gary Neville recently claiming “nobody has even got close to him”.

But the Liverpool star remains humble and has revealed he in fact cast his personal vote for Sterling – arguably his biggest rival in the ballot.
Van Dijk said: “I voted for Raheem Sterling. I did what I thought and I thought he deserves it.
“He’s had a fantastic season. I could have voted for Bernardo Silva as well and another couple of players from City.
“But I am just being honest. I think he has improved a lot as a player. We will see if he wins it.”
Liverpool are still in the race for two major trophies as they are taking on Porto in the Champions League quarter-finals this week while leading the Premier League table.
But Van Dijk refuses to take credit for the Reds’ achievements, claiming this season’s success is a result of collective effort.
He added: “Of course, you’re going to be proud, that is something you have to be.

“But all the hard work on the training ground, that is something we all did together – and it is to win something as a team, a collective thing as a club. Hopefully that is something that will happen.
“We can all keep our heads high with the amount of points that we have got, only losing one game in the Premier League so far, it is something very special.
“Until everything is decided, we just have to keep going. Individual trophies? I don’t know.”
