The actor has taken over the role from Harry Reid, who played Ben from 2014 until last year.

And after weeks of anticipation since the recasting was announced, actor Max arrived in Walford at the end of tonight’s episode to team up with dad Phil to battle dodgy gangster Danny Hardcastle.

Phil was still struggling with Danny breathing down his neck about the money laundering scheme, while worrying about Danny’s threats to his daughter, Louise.

He started to pile the pressure on Keanu Taylor but was interrupted when his ex-wife Kathy Beale called and urged him to come home.

Phil was stunned when he arrived home and sees Ben there along with Lola Pearce and her daughter, Lexi.

Viewers were delighted to finally see him, and took to Twitter to comment on the new face in Albert Square.

One wrote: “Ben is back!!! #MaxBowden #EastEnders”.

Another added: “What a nice looking actor playing Ben of course, he has changed a lot; Phil was clever to recognise him! #Eastenders”.

A third tweeted: “And welcome to Walford at last, @MaxBowden! #EastEnders”.
