"Many Photos" - Brits living outside the M25 are happier to leave the EU with No Deal, poll shows

BRITS who live outside of the M25 are happy to leave the EU without a deal – while those inside believe Britain should remain.

A YouGov poll showed that every region in England and Wales outside of the M25 are happy with a no-deal Brexit.

The research found that almost half of Londoners think that Britain should revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU.

It asked voters “if Britain has not agreed a deal by April 12th, what do you think should happen?”.

In the capital 48 per cent of the voters agreed that “Britain should withdraw our application to leave and remain in the EU”, while only 26 per cent backed leaving without a deal.

The South of England had 44 per cent of people in favour of no-deal and 34 per cent who wanted to revoke the decision to leave.

In the Midlands and Wales 46 per cent of the population were in favour of no deal, while in the North just 41 per cent felt that was the best option.

In Scotland just 28 per cent of people were in favour of no-deal while 47 per cent wanted to remain in the EU.

THE GREAT DIVIDE

The research also found that the overwhelming majority, 72 per cent, of Conservative voters wanted to leave without a deal.

Among Labour voters the majority of members wanted to back out of leaving Europe all together while 21 per cent were happy to leave without a deal.

Professor Matthew Goodwin, from Kent University, said: “These data show significant levels of support for leaving the EU without a deal, but especially outside of London and also Scotland.

“In most other regions, and when given the option of Remain versus No Deal, a plurality of voters opt for No Deal. This also happens to be the most popular option among most Conservative Party voters”

Chris Curtis, Political Research Manager at YouGov, added: “Just like in parliament, polling shows that there are no Brexit options that a majority of the public are willing to support.

“Leaving without a deal is no exception to that, with just a quarter of the public – 25pc- thinking it would be a good outcome, and twice that number – 50pc – thinking it would be a bad outcome.

“However in our most recent poll we looked at what the public think should happen in one of the situations that could lead to a no deal Brexit – that is if parliament remains deadlocked and the EU refuses to give Britain an extension.

“If this were to occur the country remains almost completely split on the best way to proceed, with 44pc opting for no deal, and 42pc thinking at that stage the government should revoke article 50.”
