A BRIT has become the first in the world to be treated using a new clot-removing device.
Mum-of-two Jackie Field had the procedure for deep vein thrombosis in her leg as she could not be treated with drugs.

The 55-year-old had the catheter inserted into her vein before it was opened out to capture the clot in its basket.
Jackie, from Eltham in South East London, said: “I felt very secure.
“I wasn’t under general anaesthetic, just had some pain relief.”

The procedure was carried out at St Thomas’ Hospital, central London, by consultant surgeon Stephen Black.
He said the device, from Vetex Medical, was a “significant improvement” on existing technology.
It would cut reliance on costly drugs and end the need for patients to stay overnight in hospital.
