A BBC presenter has described the chilling moment a perverted stalker wrote to her ‘my New Year’s resolution is to rape you’.
Alex Lovell, 46, was bombarded with depraved messages from pensioner Gordon Hawthorn sent to her work place at BBC studios in Bristol.
One card, received in January 2016 read: “Make no mistake Alex that I am going to have sex with you this year, even if it means I have to rape you.”
The 68-year-old was jailed for two-and-a-half years in January after distinctive kiss crosses he left in dozens of messages helped police to hunt him down.
Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine today, Alex said: “It was a moment, a really distinct one that I will never forget.
“The cards that came were always very intense, very suggestive in a sexual way and they were very regular.

“One day I saw another card and there was that distinctive cross. Inside he wrote ‘my New Year’s resolution is to have sex with you and if you don’t comply I’ll rape you’.
“At that moment I just felt like you could have knocked me over. It was not just the threat of rape but it was how it had suddenly changed.
“It was after a long campaign of attention and fantasy.
“You can’t go out on your own because you don’t know what this person is.
“I talked to a psychologist… and she refers to it as ‘psychological rape’ and that’s very true.”
CAPTURED BY DISTINCTIVE KISS CROSSES
Police issued a public appeal about the cards in March 2018 and a woman came forward to say she had received one that was similar.
The OAP had a habit of signing off his cards with a pattern of five distinctive kiss crosses.
Hawthorn, of Street, Somerset, was caught after DNA tests matched with two of the cards sent to Ms Lovell.
He admitted sending the cards to Ms Lovell between January 1 2016 and March 16 last year, but told police he would never have acted on the threats he made to Ms Lovell.
The creep was jailed for two years and six months and imposed an indefinite restraining order, banning him from contacting Ms Lovell.

Alex experienced panic attacks due to the stress caused by Hawthorn’s cards and used an app called HollieGuard, developed by the Hollie Gazzard Trust, for safety.
Officers praised Ms Lovell’s bravery and said it had taken courage to report the cards.
Ms Lovell hosted Brainteaser on Channel Five in 2002 after working on a live shopping channel. She has been presenting on BBC Points West since 2005.
