A father-of-two who paid off his gambling debts with £10,000 mistakenly put into his partner's bank account has been spared jail and ordered to pay it all back.
Security guard Bailey Walton, 22, had run up the debts on gambling machines but found the windfall in the bank account he held on behalf of Lauren Wood.
Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester heard Walton 'thought it was Christmas' after the cash was transferred to Miss Wood's account in error by her boss Joanne Harvey when an extra '0' was added to her pay from care firm Bojo Care Services.
The court heard Walton, of Salford, did not tell Miss Wood about the cash before the mistake was spotted a month later.
Bailey Walton, left, was ordered to repay £10,000 that was mistakenly paid to partner Lauren Wood, right, by her care firm employers

Judge Bernard Lever said: 'The employer made a mistake and he took advantage of this. He got a bank payment and thinks it's Christmas.
'He didn't intent to steal from her - it was her error that caused the problem.'
The judge told Walton: 'Your partner was working for a small firm and therefore vulnerable to financial loss.
'Miss Harvey said her and the company have been caused great problems and inconvenience due to your dishonesty.
'Your partner didn't have the stable conduct to have her own account so it was paid into yours.
'She accidentally made a bank error and gave you 10 times as much as you should have got, being £10,000.
'Miss Harvey has said the actions caused by the loss to the company has caused upset as a result of your dishonesty. You were not in a position of trust but in responsibility.

In mitigation, the court heard Walton's youngest child has health problems while his partner is suffering from depression
'You have a gambling problem and money issues and you took advantage of the mistake that was made.
'You could have returned the money, but you dissipated it. Now you will have to pay the money back.'
The court heard Walton and Miss Wood have two children - one aged six and an eight-week-old baby in need of an operation.
Miss Wood currently suffers with post natal depression.
Defence lawyer Adam Brown said in mitigation: 'They have another baby on the way and an eight week old baby currently. They are now living together whilst he works in security at night.
'Their son has health issues in his stomach and is due to go through chemo surgery and they are combatting this together. She is battling with depression.
'The money has now been dissipated as he had significant gambling debts. He had control over the account so his partner was not involved. He gave it to people who he owed money to and he regrets doing it.
Walton, pictured with Miss Wood and their daughter, was also handed a suspended sentence
'He had demonstrated that he can remain out of trouble. He attended the police station to admit to what he did.
'A reference from his employer said he has worked on door security for years and he is a credit to security.
'I also have a reference from a man who he helped outside of a bar he helped him.
'He did take advantage of the situation but it was due to his own financial situation.'
Walton admitted theft and was ordered to pay back all the cash. He was also handed a 14-month suspended sentence and told to complete 240 hours of unpaid work.
Miss Wood was initially charged with theft alongside Walton but the case against her was dropped.
