New photo Royal Mail praised for telling little boy it delivered his letter to dad in heaven

A little boy who asked the postman to deliver a birthday card to his dad 'in heaven' received a letter from the Royal Mail assuring him it had been 'delivered safely'.

Mum-of-two Teri Copland, from Bathgate in Scotland, told how her son Jase, seven, had scrawled a note to the postman asking him to make sure his late father received his card.

Jase, who lost his dad, James, in 2014 after his sudden death, aged only 28, later received a letter from the postal service telling him how the postman had navigated 'stars and other galactic objects' to get the 'important item of mail' to his dad.

In a now viral post, Teri thanked the Royal Mail for taking the time to send the letter, saying it 'means the world' to her son and has 'restored my faith in humanity'.

On the envelope Jase had written: 'Mr Postman can you take this to heaven for my dad's birthday thanks.'

He put it through the letterbox and was thrilled to receive a response from the Royal Mail shortly after.

Written by Assistant Delivery Office Manager Sam Millgan, the letter read: 'I just wanted to take the opportunity to contact you about how we succeeded in the delivery of your letter to your dad in heaven.

'This was a difficult challenge avoiding stars and other galactic objects en route to heaven.

She said: 'I actually cannot state how emotional he is knowing his dad got his card... you didn't have to make the effort to do this you could have just ignored it but the fact that yous have made the effort for a little boy you've never met is such a lovely thing to do.

ROYAL MAIL'S RESPONSE IN FULL

Dear Jase,

While we've been delivering your post, we became aware of some concerns.  So I just wanted to take this opportunity to contact you about how we succeeded in the delivery of your letter to your dad in heaven.

This was a difficult challenge avoiding stars and other galactic objects en route to heaven.

'However please be assured that this particular important item of mail has been delivered. Royal Mail's priority is to get out customers' mail delivered safely.

'I know how how important your mail is to you. I will continue to do all I can to ensure delivery to heaven safely.'

Yours sincerely,

 Sam Millgan
