RHIAN Sugden has jumped to Nick Knowles’ defence after the I’m a Celeb star was branded “sexist” for claiming some of his campmates were “jumpier” on their period.
The glamour model said it was a “fact” women are more tetchy during their menstrual cycle after the DIY SOS star upset fans with his remarks.
Rhian ranted: “So it seems anything can be classed as sexist nowadays then!?
“Girls at that time of the month are tetchier than usual. It’s not sexist it’s fact! Society has gone haywire.”
Nick sparked a backlash after telling John Barrowman to keep the girls’ time of the month in mind after the entertainer moaned about some of the girls’ behaviour.
He whispered: “Remember the girls are going to be a bit jumpier because of what time of the month they told us it is.
“We’re going to have that for a couple of days with the girls.”
John nodded and later said in the Bush Telegraph: “Tensions are a little high today that’s why I am just doing this” and acted out zipping his mouth.
It came after Rita Simons voiced that there was not enough rice being cooked for lunch – after admitting it was her time of the month.
After hearing John had put on just four portions of rice for the eleven campmates, she said in the Bush Telegraph: “That’s not enough for 11 of us.
“Everyone’s too scared to speak up about it so I do in a jokey passive aggressive way.”
Back in camp she asked the other camp mates: “Hands up who wants more rice because I do, put your hands up if you want more, it’s too much to squirrel away, and it’s ridiculous.”
Taken aback, John, 51, said in the Bush Telegraph: “That came out of nowhere, all of a sudden people wanted more rice which is fine but it was the way it was approached like it was the blame of the cooks who were doing it.”
But Nick’s suggestion that Rita might be feeling more jumpy than normal because of her period didn’t bode well with some viewers.
One slammed: “Nick Knowles blaming Rita having the audacity to speak up for herself on her period. Tut tut.#imacelebrity.”
Another raged: “Is Nick Knowles seriously suggesting that Rita is on her period because she asked for more rice? Not such a nice guy anymore huh. #ImACeleb #everydaysexism.”
However there were plenty who agreed with Rhian and admitted women are often more irritable on their period.
One fan defended: “So let me get this straight. Rita says she is PMS-ing, she and the others warned the guys that it’s almost their time of month and that issues might arise, and when Nick simply REMINDS John of what he’s been told (not said it himself), that makes him sexist?! #imaceleb #TeamNick.”

Another concurred: “Rita said she would be tetchy. She said her period was due. She said she was premenstrual.
“She goes off on one. Nick reminds John that she might be jumpier than usual. What’s wrong with that? Why is that sexist? #ImACeleb.”
