DEAR DEIDRE: MY son gets in touch only when he needs money. He’s at university and I’ve seen him only a couple of times this year.

He’s 21 and I’m his mum, aged 52. He says he’s busy with work or studying. So I leave him alone.

But I’m getting really fed up with this unfair treatment. I feel angry – but still love my son.

Christmas is almost upon us and he has not even said whether he is coming home.

I don’t know if I should ask him home and sound like I’m pleading, or just send a card and money in the hope I get a response.
