LEICESTER CITY want to bring in Spanish sensation Brais Mendez – who has already shown Alvaro Morata how to score.
The Foxes are interested in making a January swoop for the Celta Vigo attacking midfielder, 21, who has impressed for the LaLiga side this season.
He has been one of his side’s standout performers this term – along with former Liverpool flop Iago Aspas – with three goals and two assists in his nine LaLiga appearances.
Leicester scouts have watched him recently against Eibar and Real Madrid and reports in Spain claim the East Midlands club contacted Celta Vigo with an offer for the Galicia-born prodigy.
However the Spaniards are understood to have refused to budge from the £23million figure in his release clause.
Mendez joined Vigo’s academy in 2012 and his current contract runs until 2021 but Claude Puel is still confident the Spaniard can provided a crucial boost for his side as they look to qualify for the Europa League.
Latest transfer news
James Maddison has impressed in the No10 role since his summer switch from Norwich but missed the 0-0 draw with Burnley and the international matches through injury.
Demarai Gray, Rachid Ghezzal and Kelechi Iheanacho have also been deployed in that role by Puel this season to varying degrees of success.
But Mendez has been in fine form – so much so that Luis Enrique handed the playmaker his first cap for Spain’s senior side on Sunday after representing his country at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-21 level.
He came off the bench on the hour mark against Bosnia and Herzegovina in a game which saw Morata somehow miss from four yards out.
Mendez – whose dad Modesto was a striker for Deportivo La Coruna – spared his team-mate’s blushes with 12 minutes left, though.
He turned home the rebound from Isco’s initial shot to score his first goal for Spain.
