A HIPSTER café which serves £8 bowls of cereal to trendy punters has been given a one-star hygiene rating by food inspectors.
The Cereal Killer Café in Brick Lane in Shoreditch, East London, has been warned that a “major improvement” is needed to ensure that the food they serve is “safe to eat.”
Inspectors for the Food Stadards Agency (FSA) gave the eaterie a low one out of five rating after assessing it for food safety, cleanliness and condition of facilities.
Irish twins Alan and Gary Keery, known for their matching hipster-style beards and grey quiffs, opened the first café in 2014 and have since launched a second in Camden.
When they first started their business, the lads were criticised for selling bowls of cereal for around £4.40.
They now sell luxury bowls for £7.90 topping imported US breakfast cereals with marshmallows, favoured milk and ice cream.
The brothers blamed a leaky roof in their kitchen for their low health rating[/caption]

In 2015, the Brick Lane café was trashed by anti-gentrification protestors who picked on the small business because of its location in Tower Hamlets – which is one of the city’s poorest boroughs.
Speaking with The Docklands and East London Advertiser, co-owner Alan said the café’s poor rating was due to a leaky roof in their kitchen.
He said: “We had the rating when we relocated to our new Brick Lane site, and due to a leak when the premises was vacant, it caused the kitchen ceiling to crack.
“This was resolved and we are waiting on a new inspection.”
According to reports, 18 food outlets in Brick Lane were given a low rating by FSA inspectors.
