A CROOKED UK Border Force official has been convicted of smuggling £3.8million of drugs and firearms into the UK.

Simon Pellett, 37, was arrested in France last year in a Government transit van containing cocaine, heroin, ten guns and ammunition.

Alex Howard, 35, of Sittingbourne, Kent, was guilty of smuggling drugs with Pellett, of Dover, and David Baker, 55, of Beckenham, South London.

Kate Mulholland, of the CPS, said: “Our prosecution was able to prove that each of these men must have known they were smuggling firearms and drugs into the UK.

“Their defence that they did not know the real contents of the package was clearly not credible, and was disproved by surveillance, phone evidence, and the amount of drugs and weapons involved.”

Pellett and Baker were also convicted of importing firearms, but Howard was cleared at Isleworth crown court. They will be sentenced on Friday.
