New photo Brits in for balmy weekend before SNOW strikes – see how you’re affected by weather forecast

BRITAIN is set to bask in balmy temperatures this weekend before SNOW strikes early next week.

Forecasters say it’ll be another day of unseasonably warm weather with the mercury reaching double figures after it was hotter than Spain yesterday.

But the Indian summer won’t last as the Beast from the East sweeps in early next week causing temperatures to suddenly plummet to -5C.

It comes after North Wales and Scotland reached a mighty 18C on Thursday – hotter than Madrid which will only manage highs of 16C.

Meteorologists say it’s down to a jet stream which has been moving its way in from the south over recent days.

As for today, the Met Office says things could reach highs of 16C and the best of any sunshine will be to the north and west of any hills.

Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said: “A generally dry and a bright start. In the north west some sunshine, bit of drizzly rain over southern Scotland and maybe the central belt, but that should fizzle out.

“Most of England and Wales will be misty and murky, maybe some fog over the higher routes.

“It’ll gradually get a little brighter, but most – certainly across eastern and southern England – will stay pretty dull throughout the day.

“It’s west and north Wales especially, northern Scotland and north coast of Northern Ireland, where we’re most likely to see sunshine.

“The winds are coming up from the south east and where we see some sunshine temperatures could really jump up.

“The north coast of Wales will be 15 or 16C, same goes for the north west Highlands – pretty mild for the time of year.”

Mr Deakin says Saturday is set to be a bit of a foggy start but it’ll soon burn off and make way for a much sunnier day.

He said: “As we tick through Saturday, the cloud will melt away. Many places will see plenty of blue skies.

“The winds are still coming up from the south east though it’ll be a little bit cooler but with more sunshine, which may compensate a bit.

“Temperatures will still actually be in double figures and again, the north coast of Wales and the north west of Scotland could be temperatures well above average.”

But cold air from Russia will cause snow to fall across the country, leaving the UK feeling “more like Moscow than the Mediterranean”.

John Hammond, chief meteorologist for Weathertrending, told The Sun Online: “This week’s balmy southerly winds are set to be replaced by chilly easterlies by early next week – more like Moscow than the Med.”

And now experts are predicting the cold snap may stretch to the New Year — raising hopes for those holding out for a picturesque White Christmas.

Brian Gaze, director and forecaster for The Weather Outlook, told The Sun Online: “Through the rest of November and into early December there are signs of blocking areas of high pressure continuing to cut off the mild Atlantic flow.

“Therefore, we could be looking at a cold start to the winter and the computer models are showing some similarities to the set-up in in December 2010.

“That was the last sub-zero Central England Temperature (CET) month recorded.

“If a cold air mass becomes established over Europe in December it can be very difficult to shift — so people hoping for a White Christmas may want to keep a close eye on things in the next few weeks.”
