A BEAUTY brand which targets make-up at children as young as four has sparked outrage.
Petite ‘N Pretty was launched earlier this year in the US and has gained a huge fan-base of tweens.

The products range from lip glosses to super pigmented eyeshadow and there is a LOT of glitter.
At just over £31 for their small eye and cheek palette, Petite ‘N Pretty couldn’t classed as a cheap option tweens can spend their pocket money on.
Sam Cutler, Petite ‘N Pretty’s founder and a mum-of-two said her idea for the brand started “with my first makeup memory of my mum freshening up her lipstick.
“I felt so pretty when she dusted a hint of blush across my cheeks and now that I’m a mum, I love seeing my daughter’s face light up when I put a touch of sparkle on her cheekbones”.

But not everyone is a fan of the brand.
Sable Yong wrote for Allure: “I balk at the idea of marketing to kids the same kinds of language and imagery that funnels certain specific aesthetics and beauty standards into seemingly innocuous, sparkly packaging”.
But although Petite ‘N Pretty’s products are marketed in a similar way to ‘adult’ make-up they are nothing like the dramatic deep red liquid lipsticks and jet black gel eye liner we see on beauty counters.

The firm claims it’s glittery pastel shades and ultra-lightweight lip products encourage children’s creativity rather than caking themselves in thick layers of foundation.
Founder Sam said of the products: “Everything is designed to work with petite-sized features, each shade and finish is developed to be age appropriate and every formula is proven safe”.
The Beverly Hills-based brand has ensured all of their products are nut, cruelty, paraben and phthalate free, and has paediatricians sitting on its advisory board.

Yong questioned Petite ‘N Pretty’s name, and what messages it conveys to young children.
She adds: “With a brand called Petite ‘N’ Pretty, the message is upfront in the name. “Pretty” and “petite” are both words that are just modifiers, but in the context of beauty and body image, they take on a meaning we know all too well.
