IT’S never too early to start getting ready for Christmas.
Today marks 100 days until presents, turkey and tinsel take over — and cost up to £753 per family in the process, according to one survey.
Here, Sun Savers share some top tips to help you avoid any financial hangovers after the big day.
1. Create a ‘Christmas fund’. Slotting spare change into a money pot every day between now and the big day can make a real difference.
For those who don’t use cash, download the Chip app which works out how much you can afford to put away and transfers that money from your current account to your Chip account automatically. If you save a pound a day between now and Christmas, that’s £100 extra.

2. Set a spending limit. Keep track of your spending habits and work out where you can cut costs. For example, walk or cycle to work once a week or see if you could cut one drink on a night out.
The Monzo mobile banking app helps you to set a reasonable budget for the month and its snazzy layout shows you exactly where your money is being spent.

3. Switch your account. Marks & Spencer offers new current account switchers a £125 M&S gift card which could come in handy for the Christmas food shop.
There’s no minimum pay-in to qualify, plus you get reward points every time you shop with M&S. But make sure you switch early because it takes a month for the reward to be paid.

4. Boost your supermarket savings. Don’t be afraid to sign up to loyalty schemes so you can rack up points and offers while you shop — helping you make your Christmas budget stretch that little bit further.
Tesco’s new “Faster Vouchers” scheme lets you turn all your points into vouchers whenever you want. For every pound you spend, you bag one point. Get 500 points and it’s a fiver to spend in-store. Look out for bonus points which you can earn for nothing.
Or bag the Morrisons More card and get five points for every £1 spent — once you’ve collected 5,000 points you get a £5 voucher. You can also sign up to their Christmas Savers scheme and earn £1 when you save £49.

5. Start a Christmas haul. Set yourself a budget before deciding what gifts to buy for your loved ones and plan what to buy them, so you’re ready for when the pre-Christmas sales hit.
Add food to your weekly shop and pop it away and stash reduced to clear items in the freezer. Next time you buy something from a beauty counter, ask for free samples — they make great stocking fillers.
