New photo What REALLY happens on a 'top secret date' between the Bachelor and his winning contestant

The Bachelor's winning couple must keep their relationship a secret for around four months due to the show being filmed well in advance.

But how do the reality TV lovebirds keep their romance alive without being caught out in public, and therefore spoiling the outcome of the series?

The answer is through carefully orchestrated secret dates, known as 'safe house visits', which usually involve travelling to remote areas for weekends away.

During an interview with Husskie on Sunday, The Bachelor 2017 winners Matthew Johnson and Laura Byrne offered a rare insight into these clandestine visits.

The jewellery designer explained: 'When the show had finished [and] before it aired, we couldn't date – we had times where we saw each other which was organised through Channel Ten, but it wasn’t really a date. It was a locked-up-in-a-house-in-the-middle-of-nowhere kind of thing!'

'It's the hardest part because you have been separated for so long and you only have like a weekend every four weeks [to see each other],' Matty said, adding: 'But the first real date we had was in a really beautiful cottage in the Blue Mountains. We had four nights together and we just cooked a lot, watched a lot of Netflix and…'

'…Did all the things we couldn’t do on the show!' Laura joked.

It's over! While Matty and Laura were able to keep the spark alive post-filming with 'safe house visits', the same cannot be said for this year's Bachelor Nick Cummins (left) and his rumoured winner Brittany Hockley (right). It is understood the former Wallaby is already single

According to NW magazine, the contestants are 'furious' that Nick is already hooking up with other women after breaking up with the winner.

'It would be devastating for the girls, who were clearly head over heels for him, to see Nick move on so quickly,' an insider allegedly claimed on Monday.

'Imagine finding out the guy you loved was out with someone else - it's heartbreaking!

'They put their lives on hold for months for this guy - and then he's spotted out with another girl? What was the point? They'll be really peeved right now.'
