THE Oxford-Cambridge Expressway is set to become a reality and link the two cities to create an economic powerhouse.

It is part of a series of major infrastructural investments in the next 20 years aimed at pulling together the nation’s core cities by slashing travel time.

What is the Oxford Cambridge Expressway?

The new road is expected to take up to 40 minutes off the journey time between the A34 south of Oxford and the M1.

The government said the new direct motorway will create vital skills and housing and rev up the economy by bringing hundreds of thousands of people “within reach of high-quality jobs in centres of rapid growth such as Oxford Science Park”.

The Department for Transport said the road, with options to pass either west or east of Oxford, is expected to cut up to 40 minutes from journeys between the M4 and the M1.

The preferred route rules out construction in the area of the Otmoor nature reserve, demonstrating the Government’s desire to protect the natural environment.

It will run alongside the planned East West Rail line, to give consumers “a variety of road and rail travel options”.

When is construction due to start and finish?

The design of the road will be put to public consultation next year.

It is scheduled to be open to traffic by 2030.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
