New photo Tottenham vs Liverpool: Ex-Prem stars Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov, Martin Keown and Paul Merson all predict same result at Wembley

Tottenham vs Liverpool might be the stand-out game of the weekend but the result is already decided according to an array of former Premier League stars.

Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov, Paul Merson and Martin Keown all believe the Reds will come out on top at Wembley.

The two sides go into the match off the back of very different results, with Spurs humbled 2-1 by Watford and Liverpool winning their fourth straight game before the international break.

Perhaps it is that that has the ex-Premier League players in unison over Saturday’s result.

Paul Merson told Sky Sports:  “I fancy Liverpool based on the counter-attack game.

“This game is bigger for Tottenham than it is for Liverpool – this is a game Spurs can’t afford to lose.

“They’ve got to have a go especially after what happened at Watford. Liverpool will pick them off.

“If you want to win Premier League titles then you have to win these games, so Liverpool will be judged on this too.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side are being talked of as title contenders – but defeat against Spurs could have some question that

Michael Owen agrees that when it comes to talk of the title, Liverpool must perform in the games against their nearest rivals to prove their credentials.

The ex-Anfield striker told BetVictor: “This is a real test of Liverpool’s title credentials and a win at Wembley will go a long way to proving their doubters wrong.

“With a star-studded side full of attacking options the Reds are almost always guaranteed to score and will look to heap more misery on the hosts who were beaten at Watford last time out.

“Dele Alli hopes to be fit for the Londoners after missing England’s game with Switzerland and although Harry Kane was quiet against Spain he is still the go to man for his club.

“Whether Spurs can stop a rampaging Liverpool forward line looks unlikely, however, and five wins on the bounce for Jurgen Klopp’s side beckons.”

Ex-Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov is another in the Liverpool camp, despite his natural aversion to backing the Kop boys.

He told Betfair: “Liverpool have got off to a great start, winning every game and playing good football. The team looks very balanced and it’s going to be very tough for Tottenham, despite home advantage.

“I expect both teams to score as they usually do in this fixture, but I’ll have to edge towards Liverpool to win it.

“As a former United man, it pains me to see Liverpool performing so well!”

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown backs Jurgen Klopp’s team to edge the match at the national stadium.

He told the Daily Mail: “I can see Liverpool winning this 2-1.

“There is a wonderful partnership developing between [Joe] Gomez and [Virgil] van Dijk, [Naby] Keita has added energy to the midfield and up front while Sadio Mane looks a man on a mission to outscore Mo Salah this season.

“I’m backing Liverpool to be champions… so I think they will win this.”
