AFTER we spent around £7.5billion on salon treatments last year, could it be time to give our pricey haircuts the chop?
Here are some handy tips to help get your hair sorted for a snip.
App incentives. Download the Treatwell app to book services nationwide and get access to plenty of offers. If you sign up to the newsletter, you get £10 off when you book a treatment for £25 or more — and you can get five per cent cashback with Quidco.

Model at a college. Hairdressers and barbers in training are always looking for willing models to practise on. They will often offer free or low-cost trims. These are usually on weekdays and are supervised by a professional, so you know you are getting a good job.
A Toni & Guy ladies’ haircut by a stylist costs from £52 at its Covent Garden salon in central London. But book a model appointment and you could get a trim from £5.
SAVING: £47
Welcome offers. Find new salons in your area via Gumtree. Discounts, offers and deals — such as a free cut with a colour or a hot shave with a trim — are common. At the nationwide Rush Hair Salons, a gent’s cut and finish is £39 with a stylist.
But until Sunday, new clients can get 50 per cent off their first visit.
SAVING: £19.50
Avoid pricey extras. In-salon products can be expensive, so dodge the sales patter and head online, where you can pick up products used by the professionals for less.
L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Lipidium Absolut Repair Shampoo is normally £12.50 but get it on allbeauty.com for £9.35.
SAVING: £3.15
Swap shop. If you can do without always visiting the same hairdresser, check deals sites such as groupon.co.uk and livingsocial.co.uk for one-off special rates. For example, Manchester’s Nicky Oliver salon is offering 63 per cent off the normal £68 cut and blow dry on groupon.co.uk, reducing it to £25.16.

Hayden Panettiere
Size: 8
Age: 18
Height: 5ft 1in
Weight: 8st
To achieve her kick-ass figure, Hayden – who plays cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes – follows the ‘quartering’ rule. She eats only a quarter of the food on her plate, then waits 20 minutes before deciding whether she needs to eat again.
Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”
Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
kim cattrall
Size: 10-12
Age: 52
Height: 5ft 8in
Weight: 9st 4lb
SATC star Kim swears by gym sessions with Russian kettle bells (traditional cast-iron weights) and the South Beach Diet to give her the body she wants. To avoid overeating, Kim has a radical diet trick – squirting lemon juice on her leftovers – so she won’t carry on picking.
Kim says: “I am no super-thin Hollywood actress. I am built for men who like women to look like women.”
