A NEWSPAPER is about to become the butt of jokes when it launches with the title Uranus Examiner.

Locals in the town of Uranus plumped for the cheeky title — but district officials think they’ve dug themselves into a hole.

The paper is about to become the butt of jokes when it launches with the title Uranus Examiner

Luge Hardman, mayor of neighbouring US city Waynesville, says she will not be placing official notices in the publication.

She stormed: “I’m sorry but the innuendo of that title puts my city up for public ridicule — and I will not be a part of it.”

The weekly publication will replace the defunct Waynesville Daily Guide when it goes on sale in south Missouri next month.

Managing editor Natalie Sanders said of the title: “We thought about Constitution but most people who love us and who were part of coming up with the name, liked Examiner better.”

The town of Uranus, with 25 residents, is used to poking fun at itself.

Businesses include the Fudge Factory And General Store. A billboard used to read: “The Best Fudge Comes from Uranus”. It is also home to the world’s largest belt buckle.
