New photo Matt Chapman discusses a weekend to savour as the Group action hots up on the track in his latest column

THE facts tell the story.

Eight Group 1 and seven Group 2 races take place in Britain, Ireland and France this weekend.

For once, all we need to talk about is the sport we all love.

So let’s get straight to it and here are my thoughts on the feature contests.

Filly Lah Ti Dar became the joker in the pack for Britain’s oldest Classic, the St Leger at Doncaster, when given the go-ahead to run on Wednesday.

Once favourite for the Oaks, connections are obviously keen to try to make her a Classic winner. It is hard to know if she will be good enough. But her trainer Johnny ‘G’ Gosden has a great Leger record.

I wanted to oppose Kew Gardens at a short price, but he’s now arguably at decent odds for Aidan O’Brien, and has every chance after his eyecatching third behind Old Persian in the Great Voltigeur.

He is not bomb-proof, but since being held up rather than pace-making he has come into his own.

Godolphin’s Old Persian battled well at York, while Loxley is improving for the same outfit but picked up weak events at Deauville.

The each-way shout is Dee Ex Bee, who chased home Masar in the Derby back in June. He has been gagging for this step up in distance and will keep plodding away.

At Leopardstown this afternoon, all eyes will be on wonderfilly Alpha Centauri, who bids to make it five straight Group 1s in a row for the excellent Jessica Harrington.

She goes on any ground and is tactically diverse. It is impossible to oppose her. Karl Burke sends super-tough Laurens to take her on and a drop back in trip will help her. But she lacks the sparkle of Alpha Centauri.

Also at Leopardstown we have a corking renewal of the Irish Champion Stakes.

It is round six — yes six — of Roaring Lion vs Saxon Warrior. They have met in the Racing Post Trophy, 2,000 Guineas, Derby, Eclipse and Juddmonte International.

Saxon Warrior was brilliant in the Guineas, and I still feel there’s another big one in him. But Roaring Lion has turned into a star. I gave his big-race jockey a good pep talk at Doncaster earlier in the week, as seen above.

The action in Ireland switches to The Curragh tomorrow with the Group 1 Flying Five and it is amazing Take Cover has every chance of a top-level win aged  11.

What a servant he has been for David Griffiths. It is a hard race to call, but perhaps Hit The Bid will show he’s a fast-improving animal for up-and-coming trainer Darren Bunyan.

That race is followed by the Moyglare Stud Stakes in which Skitter Scatter comes here still improving on her seventh start. Main Edition is the Albany winner from Royal Ascot and has done little wrong for Mark Johnston, but she lacks  flair.

Just Wonderful is worth a look each-way. She appeared to relish being stepped up in distance last time and while she drops back to seven furlongs here she might be just getting her act together.

Then we have the National Stakes at The Curragh, which looks a real cracker. Anthony Van Dyck goes head-to-head with Godolphin’s exciting Quorto.

The latter has been brought along patiently and was awesome in the Superlative at Newmarket.

O’Brien hope Anthony Van Dyck has banged in a Group 3 and 2 and looks to complete the set. He is  classy but did make heavy weather of his latest win.

The Irish action is rounded off with their St Leger in which O’Brien runs Flag Of Honour, an improving three-year-old who could be a Gold Cup horse in years to come.

The value poke might be Idaho, who has been highly tried of late and might just love this distance. He’s an odd horse who sweats badly but has plenty of talent.

If that wasn’t enough, we also have the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp. There is no Treve or Zarkava this year but Worth Waiting has been awesome for David Lanigan, and Magic Wand was decent enough in the Ribblesdale.

What a weekend it is. Whether you’re watching on ITV or At The Races, just sit back and enjoy.

To achieve her kick-ass figure, Hayden – who plays cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes – follows the ‘quartering’ rule. She eats only a quarter of the food on her plate, then waits 20 minutes before deciding whether she needs to eat again.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”

SATC star Kim swears by gym sessions with Russian kettle bells (traditional cast-iron weights) and the South Beach Diet to give her the body she wants. To avoid overeating, Kim has a radical diet trick – squirting lemon juice on her leftovers – so she won’t carry on picking.

Kim says: “I am no super-thin Hollywood actress. I am built for men who like women to look like women.”
