A married couple drove an 'A-Team' style van to beauty spots where they carried out sex attacks on teenage schoolgirls, a court heard. 

Avril Griffiths, 61, of Barry, south Wales, is accused of helping her husband Peter, 65, to rape three schoolgirls. One victim told police she was attacked in the back of their specially-painted 'A-Team' van when she was in her early teens.

A court heard the couple had the van painted to resemble the one from the popular television show about a team of ex-special forces soldiers.

In a recorded police interview, one of their victims said: 'There were times these things happened in the van. He [Peter Griffiths] would meet up with other people.

'It was an A-Team van. It was made to look exactly like an A-Team van. Black with a red stripe.

'They would meet up with other people in cars. I think they call it dogging these days. They would pass me round basically.'

The court heard the couple would drive to beauty spots such as Castle Coch, near Cardiff, and Porthkerry Park in Barry, South Wales, before launching an attack.

The alleged victim, who was in her early teens, said she was made to dress in miniskirts belonging to Avril Griffiths.

She said: 'They would also make me wear short skirts. One of Avril's skirts. I would have heels on. Avril's again.'

The court heard the girl was also raped on a boat by Peter Griffiths and his friend.

She said: 'They put me on the bed in the cabin below. I was raped by this man, Peter's friend. Then I was raped by Peter. I was ripped apart that night.'

The court heard the husband and wife would ply the girl with pints of vodka on the boat.

She added: 'I was damaged that night. I was hurting.'

The court heard when the girl cried on the boat she was told she would be left 'in the water.'

Peter Griffiths, 65, of Barry, South Wales, pleaded not guilty to eight counts of rape, three counts of indecent assault and three counts of taking indecent photographs of a child.

Avril Griffiths, 61, also of Barry, pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape, three counts of taking indecent photographs of a child, and two counts of indecent assault.

The alleged offences took place between 1978 and 1993.

The trial at Cardiff Crown Court continues.
