BEVERLEY Callard is best known for her role as Liz McDonald on Coronation Street.
But, when did she start playing the part and what else has she been in? Let’s get the lowdown…
How old is Beverley Callard? What’s her background?
Beverley Callard (née Moxon), 61, was born in Morley, Yorkshire, on March 28 1957.
Her father Clive was a baker and her mother Mavis was a concert pianist.
She left school in 1973 and took a job as a shorthand typist.
Beverley made her TV debut in Emmerdale Farm as Angie Richards in 1983.
When did Beverley Callard start playing Liz McDonald on Coronation Street?
Beverley made her first appearance in Corrie in 1984 as Brian Tilsley’s friend Gail.
She then returned with the more significant role of Liz McDonald on October 27, 1989.
She remained on the soap until November 1998.
Callard had brief stints on the soap after leaving, but returned on a permanent basis in October 2013.
The Corrie character is mother of twins Steve and Andy, and grandmother of Amy Barlow and Oliver Battersby.
Liz is probably best known for working in the Rovers – she started off as a barmaid in 1991, but became landlady and licensee in 2006 when Steve bought the pub.
After a stint as a receptionist at the medical centre she’s now returned to pull pints at the Rovers.
She’s currently coming to terms with the return of her ex-husband Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson) following his release from prison and her ‘daughter’ Hannah who’s trying to scam her.

Some of Beverley’s first acting roles were on stage as Jaqui Coryton in Noël Coward’s Hay Fever and The Wicked Queen in Snow White.

In 2000 she played Barbara in the BBC sitcom The Peter Principle.

What has Beverley Callard said about her battle with depression?
She took a two-month break from Corrie in 2016 after “sliding” into a downward spiral when her medication was discontinued.
In an interview with Yours magazine, the TV favourite admitted she’s a “perfectionist” and “people pleaser” who tends to put a lot of pressure on herself, but she is “really well” these days after finding a new medication that works for her.
She said: “I’m really well, and feel like I’m back to normal.”
“I have to be sensible – I’m a workaholic and have to try to relax more, which I don’t find easy.
“Overcoming clinical depression is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.
