THIS is the heartbreaking moment a newsreader bravely reveals her own daughter died of drug overdose.

South Dakota news anchor Angela Kennecke reported on her daughter Emily’s fatal overdose

The TV anchor, 52, who reports on news in South Dakota, decided to share her story in the hope of raising awareness of substance abuse.

She said: “In recent years, we have brought you news reports on the opioid crisis.

“But now, the opioid epidemic has hit home in a tragic and devastating way for me personally.

“On May 16, my 21-year-old daughter Emily died of an overdose. Her official cause of death was fentanyl poisoning.”

Angela Kennecke chose to share the loss of daughter Emily Groth

Kennecke has set up a fund called Emily’s Hope to help those struggling with drug addiction

Calling her daughter “talented, smart and beautiful” Angela appeared to be holding back tears as she told viewers “is no recovery for me or my family”.

Angela added: “The reason I am doing this is because my only hope in the face of such devastating loss is that Emily’s story, my family’s personal tragedy, can be a catalyst for change.

“As a mum, I have a hole in my heart that will always be there. It is never going to heal.

“I have other children that I love. I have a husband that I love. But nothing and nobody can replace the loss of my oldest child.”

She added: “I was robbed of my daughter. I was simply robbed.”

Emily’s family were reportedly planning an intervention, and Emily was due to get help just days after her death.

Emily’s Hope is a fund set up in memory of Emily Groth.
