Gina Miller denounced Brexit 'lies' today as she renewed calls for a second referendum at the Liberal Democrat conference.

Despite being the star attraction at the party gathering in Brighton today, the anti-Brexit activist insisted she was not their 'leader in waiting'.

Ms Miller insisted politicians were failing to rise to the challenge of Brexit and lashed 'fascism' on both left and right of British politics. 

The former model, who won a Supreme Court challenge against the Government over its Article 50 powers, warned liberal must not be left 'wringing our hands'.

And she said: 'Our politics has become warped. Suddenly our friends are our enemies, our enemies our friends. Lies have become facts, facts have become lies.

'We will all of us be judged by future generations – by our children and grandchildren – by what we do during the defining weeks and months ahead.'

Recalling war time leaders including Winston Churchill, she suggested modern politicians were not good enough to fundamentally alter the fate of the nation.

Ms Miller insisted: 'Let’s be clear, in the debate we had in 2016 about Europe, there was scant idealism. Lies were told.

'Let’s be clear, too, that when Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, David Davis and all the others who won that debate, they entered into a contract with the British people to deliver a workable, realistic plan to leave the EU that would work - not just for the millionaires who backed their campaign, but for everyone.

'After all this time, they have failed to come up with such a plan. They’ve failed to honour the contact.' 

London Mayor Sadiq Khan (pictured yesterday on the Marr show) piled pressure on Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn yesterday by endorsing the proposal, calling for a delay to Brexit to make time for a new vote 

Insisting she was 'politically independent', Ms Miller told the Lib Dem faithful she was in Brighton to 'cheer them on' as the biggest party demanding a new referendum. 

She said: 'It’s time for politicians to do the morally and democratically right thing – to let the people decide their own future on the facts – before it is too late.' 

Debate over a second referendum will continue throughout the party conference season.

Theresa May will go to her own conference later this month fighting to persuade her party she has a coherent vision of what Brexit will look like under her leadership.
