DIANE Abbott risked a furious backlash today after linking the Government’s immigration stance to that of brutal African tyrant Idi Amin.
In incredible remarks inserted late into a big speech, the Shadow Home Secretary said the “other-risation” of migrants “goes back” to the Ugandan dictator’s butchering regime.
In an extraordinary blast at Ministers, the key-Corbynista hit out at the “rhetoric”, and linked it to Amin – who ethnically cleansed 300,000 between 1971 and 1979
It came as Ms Abbott confirmed Labour’s plans to scrap the Government’s immigration cap and allow in unlimited numbers of overseas workers if there are skills shortages in the UK.
In a rambling speech, she hit out: “How can this happen? The most important factor is that official policy, Ministerial rhetoric and media coverage fails to treat migrants as people.
“And this goes all the way back to the debate about East African Asians under Idi Amin, what we have always seen is the other-risation of migrants.
“And we’ve seen it, I’m sorry to say under Labour and Conservative Governments.”
She went on: “Migrants have always been about numbers. They have been a problem.
“They have been a ‘flood’ and a ‘tidal wave’. According to Philip Hammond they have been marauding.
“A former Tory Prime Minister referred to migrants ‘swarming’ into this country.
“If you believe this rubbish, it’s little wonder the current Prime Minister calls for ‘deport first, and appeal later’.”

However in a version of the speech distributed by Labour spin doctors, there was no mention of Amin.
In a farcical moment, Ms Abbott later said: “We want to have an irrational, I mean rational immigration policy.”
And she risked further outrage by banning teasing newspaper sketch writers from the set piece, the party insisting the room in Parliament’s Wilson Room was full, despite a number of empty seats.
