She's been at the centre of a bitter high-profile split after her marriage to Today show host Karl Stefanovic collapsed.

And Cassandra Thorburn snapped on Wednesday when Sarah Harris, 37, appeared to suggest that she needed to find love again in order to find joy post-divorce.

Appearing on Studio 10, Cassandra was questioned whether she was searching for a new beau, with the 47-year-old shooting back: 'Do I need a man to be happy?'

Cassandra was on the Network Ten breakfast show to discuss her new children's book, but it wasn't long before her famous ex-husband and their relationship breakdown was brought up.

Broaching the topic of what life was like post-divorce for Cassandra, host Sarah Harris stated: 'It would be tricky being mum and dad for your kids...'

Cassandra was left less than impressed by the suggestion she plays dual roles as a parent to the former couple's three children: Jackson, 18, Ava, 13, and River, 11.

'But you’re not mum and dad. My children still have a dad - of course they do. I’m not replacing him in that position. He still holds that position,' Cassandra hit back.

The interview quickly took a turn for the worse when Sarah then went on to ask about Cassandra's dating life.

'You are a great mum, and I know your life is all about them at the moment, but is the door open to maybe … love again?' Sarah asked.

It was a question that left Cassandra visibly gobsmacked, and she snapped in her response.

'What? So I need another - so do I need to have a man?' Cassandra replied icily. 'Do I need to have a man to continue on?'

Sarah was forced to backtrack in the awkward segment, insisting the remark was light-hearted.   

While Cassandra didn't appear to initially appreciate the question, she later conceded she wasn't ruling out the possibility of finding a new beau.

'I think you have to be open to anything coming your way in life, but at the moment, I’m not focused on it,' she said.  

Cassandra also claimed she was enjoying her new life as a divorcee and 'getting to know' herself.

After her 21-year marriage to Karl collapsed in September 2016, Cassandra was thrust into the spotlight as the pair endured relentless headlines about their split.

Following Cassandra and Karl's break-up, the Gold Logie winner struck up a relationship just three months later with shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough, 34.

The whirlwind romance heightened interest in the saga and Cassandra has previously claimed that the drama playing out so publicly has been difficult for her kids.

He moved on fast! While Cassandra didn't appreciate the suggestion she necessarily had to start dating, Karl quickly struck up a romance with Jasmine Yarbrough months after the split 

In the Studio 10 interview, Cassandra again touched on the effect that experience such a high-profile split has had but claimed she hasn't let the public's perceptions get to her.

'I just don’t think it’s relevant to me. The world is full of judgments, but they don’t really know what’s going on,' she said.

'The only priority I have is making sure my children are happy and in a good place. I don’t owe anyone anything.'

Cassandra has also been candid about her divorce in past interviews.

Breaking her silence for the first time in October last year, Cassandra admitted to The Australian Women's Weekly that she 'was in a very dark place' when the relationship fell apart.

Likening the break-up to experiencing the death of a family member, she admitted she will never have an amicable friendship with her ex.

'The children still have a father but I don't have a husband. He really is dead to me and no, we won't ever be friends again,' she said at the time. 

'There were days in the beginning I would get up, put on a brave face and drop the kids at school, then I'd get to the back door and I would lie in a heap for the rest of the day unable to move - there were very dark days,' she told the magazine.

'I was completely gazumped when I realised Karl had gone.'

Meanwhile, Karl's relationship with Jasmine continues to blossom despite public scrutiny. 

The couple are due to tie the knot in San Jòse del Cabo, Mexico in December.

However, Karl seems to be faring less well in his professional life.

The embattled Today show host continues to be at the centre of speculation that his job is hanging in balance following the breakfast show's plummeting ratings.
