BENEDICT Cumberbatch says he was “foolhardy” when he jumped out of a taxi to foil a mugging, as revealed by The Sun.
The Sherlock star, 42, said he didn’t “think twice about knives or acid” when he fended off four thugs attacking a Deliveroo rider.

He leapt to the rescue from his Uber whilst wife Sophie Hunter, 40, stayed in the car.
Benedict said: “Basically what happened was that I saw a Deliveroo delivery bicycle guy getting surrounded by some guys on a very cold November night, and I just stopped the Uber we were in and got out and tried to calm the kids down, who were all riled up, and tried to calm the guy down who looked like he was about to fight for his life.
“I didn’t really think twice about knives or acid or any other things that can be part of that situation so it was a bit foolhardy but no real bravery or heroics.”
The incident occurred last year in November near 221B Baker Street, fictional London home of author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s hero detective Sherlock Holmes.

Four yobs punched the defenceless cyclist and smashed him over the head with a bottle.
Asked on US show The Ellen Degeneres show if he stopped it from taking place, the actor replied he “literally got in the way”.
Benedict added: “I also tried to stop traffic so people could witness it if anything did happen and there were people there and that might scare any violence out of the situation.”
Driver Manuel Dias, 53, told in June how he helped the “courageous” Hollywood star.

He said: “He was very brave. He did most of it, to be honest.
“They tried to hit him but he defended himself and pushed them away. He wasn’t injured. Then I think they also recognised it was Benedict and ran away.
“Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured.”
